Ketchup is, namely, one of the most present groceries in the refrigerators around the world and is a healthy food because of the large amounts of lycopene in itself. Lycopene is a plant pigment that gives the red color to vegetables, it belongs to the group of carotenoids, the family of antioxidants and its antioxidant power is much higher compared to other carotenoids. The most important source of lycopene is tomato, but there is a greater concentration of it in ketchup and tomato sauces.

Precisely because of this component, which has a functional role in the organism, ketchup may be classified in the family of functional food. As a low-calorie product it can be used in dietary nutrition.
It is used most often as an addition to sandwiches, pizzas, spaghetti and French fries, but also with many other dishes, giving them a special taste.
