  • Establishment of a factory

    The industrial production of edible oil in the Balkans dates back to the small town of Vrbas in Vojvodina. Enterprising merchant Jakob Lenji built the first oil refining workshop in this town on the shore of the Old Channel in 1855. No one could have imagined that the commissioning of this small plant would lay the foundation for a future powerful industrial giant – the VITAL plant. Lenny’s factory began production of pressed unrefined oil with manual and livestock power. The predominant raw materials were hemp, pumpkin seeds and rapeseed. Until 1929, the crude oil was refined not in Vrbas but in Budapest where the Lenji family owned a refinery. The third and fourth decades of the twentieth century, when the factory was headed by the grandson of the founder, Joseph Lenji, are very significant for the development of the first oil mill in the Balkans.

  • Factory „Vojvodina”

    Lenji registered the workshop as a factory “Vojvodina” on August 4, 1928. In fact, its name was officially: “Steric and Lenji – the first Serbian oil factory in Vojvodina” Novi Vrbas. In the summer of 1930, an oil factory ” Vojvodina “, as the property of Lenji and his comrades, is registered as” a company engaged in the production and sale of edible oils, for technical purposes, fat and whale, as well as the sale of mineral oils. ” Lenin and the Reich & Friedman Company of Novi Bečej also shows a trademark that had three six-pointed stars, evenly spaced.

  • A refining plant was purchased and production of edible oil started

    A refining plant was purchased in 1929. and production of edible oil began … Lenji was able to bring in from the Czech Republic an educated craftsman who was versed in the secrets of oil refining.

  • Commissioning of the margarine plant

    In 1957. the first margarine factory in Serbia was completed and put into operation. Vrbas oilseeds produced the first 90 tons of this food that year. VITAL experienced the fastest development in the period from 1969. to 1977 . During this period, several production facilities were built in new locations for which the most up-to-date world oil and margarine production equipment was imported.

  • Crude edible oil production lines were built and put into operation

    In 1971/1972. raw edible oil production lines were built and put into operation – the “raw side” (peeling plant, press plant, extraction) with a capacity of 700 tons of sunflower seeds per day.

  • Edible oil filling begins

    In 1973/1974. the first line for filling edible oil into PVC bottles – renopak, with a capacity of 1,900 bottles per hour, was put into operation.

  • Construction of a biscuit and waffle factory

    In 1975. and 1976. Vital has managed to build a 4,000-ton-a-year cookie and waffle factory, and a 30,000-ton seed drying silo has been erected.

  • New margarine production line

    Iz Švedske je 1976/77. the equipment for the assembly of a new line for the production of various types of margarines arrived, with table, soft, milk, low calorie and industrial margarines being produced from 2-5 tons.

  • Second line for production of bottle bottles

    In 1978. the boiler room and chemical water preparation were expanded and reconstructed, and a second line for production and filling of plastic bottles (1,900 bottles per hour) was purchased and installed. The three stars on the labels, Vital’s kla oil for the highest reputation, have become a very recognizable sign of the factory in Yugoslavia.

  • 1980.

    In 1980. the multi-year construction of a storage facility for crude edible oils, refined oils, refined fatty acids was completed, with a storage capacity of 26,000 tonnes. The following year, a line was purchased and installed for cooling the sunflower shot, as well as a line (packing machine) for packing 2.5 and 5 kilograms of margarine and a small pack of 20 and 35 grams. Water electrolysis and an oil hydrogenation line have been expanded and reconstructed.

  • 1982/1983.

    1982/1983. a silo for a 1,200 tonne sunflower barrel was built in the year, as well as a line for the insulting and bulk dispensing of a shotgun. Vital is one of the largest and most modern edible oil factories in Europe.

  • 1985

    In 1985. reconstruction of the solid fuel boiler room (substitution of coal oil) was completed.

  • 1986.

    1986. The computer for data processing (ERC computer center) started operating

  • 1987.

    1987. The line for the hydrogenation of edible oil was expanded to a capacity of 150 tonnes per day and a new 250 Nm ‘per hour hydrogen generator was built.

  • 1988.

    1988. The production line for the production of technical lecithin with a capacity of 10 tons per day of phosphatide precipitate and the line for hydrolysis of a soapbox with a capacity of 60 tons per day were commissioned.

  • 1989.

    1989. The trial line for the treatment of wastewater with a capacity of 52 m per hour was commissioned. In the same year, the line for the packaging of edible oil in tetra bricks (1 liter), with a capacity of 3,600 liters per hour, was put into operation.

  • 1990.

    1990. A palm oil fractional crystallization plant with a capacity of 32 tonnes per day was commissioned and various laboratory equipment was purchased. In the same year, “Vital” withdrew from SOUR PIK “Vrbas”.

  • 1992.

    1992. The heat recovery system was put into operation at the plant for the hydrogenation of edible oils, with a capacity of 150 tons per day, and the DT apparatus and condenser were reconstructed at the cake extraction plant.

  • 1993.

    From 1993. to 1995. an adaptation of the vegetable fat refinery was carried out at an oil and fat interesterification plant, with a capacity of 40 tonnes per day, and a self-cleaning separator with a weight loss meter was purchased at the edible oil neutralization department. Liquid and gas chromatographs were purchased.

  • 1994.

    Establishment of the Rastimo Handball Camp.

  • 1996/1997.

    1996/1997. a line for the production and packaging of mayonnaise in polyethylene bags and aluminum tubes, with a capacity of 500 kg per hour, was purchased. A state-of-the-art line for the production and packaging of various types of margarines (table, lubricants, puff pastry, low calorie), with a capacity of 3,000 to 4,500 kg per hour, was procured and commissioned. In the same period, the following were also purchased: a line for the production of various types of vegetable fats, with a capacity of 5,000-7,000 kilograms per hour, packing machines for 250 g and 500 g margarines, semicontinuous filters for filtering vegetable fats, with a capacity of 150 tons per day, central server, local area network server and personal computers.

  • The “Golden Sunflower Literary Award”

    Since 1997, Vital has traditionally awarded the Golden Sunflower literary prize, at the beginning of each year, for the best literary achievement of the previous year.

  • 1998/1999.

    1998/1999. JUS ISO 9001 certificates were obtained. A gas pipeline network and gasification were built on the block boiler in the boiler room, on the high pressure boiler for de-planting and in the sunflower seed dryer.

  • 2000.

    2000. works on the construction of Phase I and Phase II of the silo capacity of 10,000 tons of sunflower seeds have been completed

  • 2001.

    2001. a conditional repository warehouse (S-19) was built as well as a cold storage facility for finished goods (H-54). Work on the application of gaseous nitrogen in the storage of edible oil and fat (inertization) has been completed.

  • 2003. to 2004.

    From 2003 to 2004. a new facility for the production of mayonnaise and ketchup, a packaging line, a warehouse for raw materials and the storage of final products (H-46) was built. The line for the production of mayonnaise and ketchup is 2,000 kg per hour, the triplex for packaging in foil film 1,200 kg per hour, and the line for filling, sealing, labeling and bulk packaging in PET bottles and glass jars 2,500 kg per hour. Vital is one of the largest and most successful giants in the Serbian industry today. Extreme attention is paid to the health quality of the products, since the products of this factory are in some way necessary food ingredients for the population of Serbia and Montenegro.
